We were already impressed years ago when Skype was first introduced on a full OS, but when its video call features are applied on a mobile OS, it gets even better.
The familiar blue-and-white interface makes a comeback in the mobile version of Skype. Things are a little simplified, of course, but the critical elements are easily accessible. You can quickly build up your contact list with the option to import all of your contact information from your phone's list. The call quality was high in our tests, and the video calls didn't lag and appeared very natural. This version of Skype adds the option to use your back camera as an alternate video feed unit in case you want to show something to the person you are talking to, which helped make calls seem even more dynamic. Skype communication standards are still applicable with the mobile version, so there are no additional charges if you contact another smartphone that also uses the Skype app.
With this version, we think that Skype brings one of the best VoIP experiences that you can have for a mobile unit. Recommended for any user.

Despite its powerful and extremely attractive 3D graphics engine, Dark Reign 2 ultimately fails to tread much new ground.

Pandemic Studios' Dark Reign 2 is a fully 3D real-time strategy game that looks excellent and plays quite well. The game takes place on a futuristic Earth torn by a war between two powerful factions, the JDA and the Sprawlers. Each is equipped with infantry, naval, aerial, and tank units that attack each other with shimmering laser beams and explosive shells. All in all, Dark Reign 2 is a solid, balanced, and very polished game - which is why it's all the more unfortunate that its gameplay closely follows an otherwise unoriginal and limited formula for real-time strategy games: Gather resources, amass troops, and attack your enemy.
It's true that Dark Reign 2 looks great. Each of the game's units, from the poised Guardian and Castigar infantry units of the JDA to the Sprawlers' double-barreled Scorpion tanks, is extremely detailed. Each military unit fires weapons, like glowing lasers that strike their targets and explode in a burst of colored light, volleys of projectile ammunition that leave arcing trails of white smoke in their wake, bolts of searing lightning, or other equally impressive armaments. If you've seen any static screenshots of Dark Reign 2, you've probably already seen many of the game's slick-looking units and spectacular explosions. You may not know that some of the firing animations, particularly on infantry units, are stiff and awkward-looking, and that the debris that flies up in the air from a destroyed building is usually nothing more than poorly animated black polygonal chunks. But these are relatively minor problems in a game with otherwise excellent graphics - problems that for the most part don't make Dark Reign 2's futuristic buildings and various military units any less attractive.
Despite whatever else might be said about its sound or graphics, Dark Reign 2 plays quite well. The mid to late games are often extremely strategic, and they require you to carefully select the right units for the right job. That's because Dark Reign 2 - like other strategy games before it - has a number of features to discourage early-game "rush" tactics with low-level units. For instance, most low-level units are fairly slow on their feet, and the game lets you defend your base with powerful and inexpensive stationary turrets from the get-go - turrets that will make short work of a simple squad of base-level troops. What's more, both of the game's factions may build powerful turrets that are specifically designed to wreak havoc on either airborne or grounded troops - though these specialized turrets themselves are usually vulnerable to attacks from enemies they aren't specifically designed to attack. In fact, most of Dark Reign 2's units are designed this way. Each has particular strengths - which can often be used to great effect against a specific type of enemy unit - and particular weaknesses that render them nearly useless in other situations. As such, you must build a balanced and varied army to succeed in Dark Reign 2.

The Sims 3: Generations is the fourth expansion pack for the hit single-player simulation game The Sims 3.
The Sims 3: Generations offers fun new features and objects to play with, but on the whole, it doesn't make much of an impression.

The Sims games have traditionally received two types of add-ons: "stuff" packs that give fans new items like decor and apparel, and full expansions that add brand new gameplay elements. The Sims 3: Generations is an awkward middle child, granting you more than just hairstyles and new chairs but none of the inventiveness found in previous expansions like World Adventures and Ambitions. This addition is a pleasant extension of what The Sims 3 already does--not a game changer--and series addicts will undoubtedly enjoy how well Generations captures the essence of life's individual milestones. Children get tree houses and playground equipment; teens learn to drive and go to prom; adults have midlife crises; and grumpy oldsters shoo away annoying kids with their canes. These enhancements are subtly integrated into the main game, but they don't have the overall impact of previous expansions. And that's this expansion's real problem: lack of impact. It's nice to have new playthings, but at almost the cost of a whole new game, even the most dedicated devotees can probably do without these toys.
As you can guess from its title, Generations deepens and broadens your sims' various stages of life by adding mechanics suited to their age. It begins in childhood, with one of the expansion's most charming and surreal additions: the imaginary friend. This semicreepy stuffed wonder morphs from plush toy into a combination of best friend and personal assistant. Watching your child's purple Martian mutant saunter about with an exaggerated bounce is as charming and silly a sight as any in the series, and you only see him when you are directly controlling your child. Want a snack? Send your pal to grab you one. Want help with making the beds and cleaning the toilet? Ask your invisible friend to help with your chores. Heck, you can even turn him into a controllable sim if you mess around at the chemistry table often enough. You make potions here, one of which will make your virtual Pinocchio a real boy. Well, almost, anyway. You can craft other potions at the table too, such as mood enhancers and the like, though potions aren't exactly new; the Makin' Magic expansion for the original game included a similar mechanic.
As you move through the years, you also unlock new features. Children don't just get living plushies: They can play on seesaws and in tree houses or use any of the other playground equipment added to the Buy mode. They can also pull pranks, at home or elsewhere. Your cackling kid may sneak up to his parents' laptop and set it up to scare the next sim that uses it or plant a whoopee cushion on the sofa. The sim that falls victim to the prank is disgusted by the sound, and temporarily suffers from a negative moodlet. If your kid prefers milder forms of fun, you can always dress him or her up as a dinosaur using the new costume chest. Here, as in other ways, Generations encapsulates an important truth of youth: Children dressed as fairy princesses and astronauts are adorable. Teens are more known for angst than adorableness, so perhaps you'd like to prank the school and release frogs from the science lab; it's a pity you only read of the results in in-game text rather than witness the hysterical results. Your teens can also go to prom, but this is an option sadly underutilized. Perhaps your prom was a slow-dancing delight, or perhaps it was a public display of romantic awkwardness. Either way, you can't relive those moments in The Sims 3: Generations. Your teen and his or her date simply disappear into the building, and you get periodic updates in the corner of your screen.
Luckily, other elements are more interactive. You can throw bachelor parties now for engaged sims, and if things get wild and crazy, why not pull out a video camera? You activate cameras from your personal inventory and "tape" events from a first-person view. It's actually pretty amusing to step into the shoes of an individual sim in this manner because you suddenly feel like you are actually eavesdropping on your neighbors' conversations rather than having your virtual doppelganger do your dirty work for you. Later, you can watch your home videos on television, though reliving these moments isn't nearly as fun as capturing them in the first place. Perhaps you aren't so much into the partying aspect of The Sims 3. Luckily, there's at least a little something new to mess with for most types of players. Builders and buyers will appreciate spiral staircases and the new wedding arch; family-oriented folks will like how you can reprimand your kids when they're particular naughty; and if you're into woohoo, beware: You now have to worry about your romantic reputation.
These changes are all fine in and of themselves, but they don't bring anything significant to the table; they simply broaden existing features. Previous expansions added game-changing mechanics like celebrity fame, puzzle-solving adventures, and interactive careers. Granted, Generations adds a new profession--Day Care--but attending to a roomful of toddlers that need constant changing and socializing isn't as fun as busting ghosts or fighting fires. (Though to be fair, Day Care is not a career, but a profession, which is an important distinction to Sims 3 players.) But Generations mostly stretches out what already existed and offers nothing exciting enough to lure you back to the game if you've moved on from it. Its final impact is that of a "stuff pack" with added social features rather than a true expansion. Generations is in part aimed at the "Sims 3 as sharing experience" crowd, as evidenced by the new social networking integration, which allows you to upload key moments to the Sims 3 website and share them on your Facebook wall. Now, the virtual life you live in The Sims 3 has more bearing on your actual life than ever before. But even voracious Sims lovers might wonder whether $39.99 is too much to ask for a product that feels less like an expansion and more like a collection of gameplay odds and ends.
Those odds and ends are agreeable at least, though they aren't all that's new in The Sims 3: Generations. You could run into bugs you've never seen before. You might receive notice that your teen has made a new friend at school: himself. Or your normally endearing child might temporarily morph into a hideous long-armed freak, with her head in the middle of her abdomen. Glitches aside, Generations adds entertaining moments to a franchise that turns routine duties, like taking showers and tossing salads, into compelling delights, but these new moments are too infrequent and unexceptional to justify the high price tag.

PES 6- Pro Evolution Soccer 6 Konami's Pro Evolution Soccer series has usually managed to outdo EA's FIFA series in the eyes of European critics, even if it rarely manages to generate the same level of sales. When Winning Eleven: Pro Evolution Soccer 2007 (or Pro Evolution Soccer 6 in Europe) was announced for the Xbox 360, it seemed gamers could finally look forward to a game that combined superb playability with more impressive visuals and a compelling online offering.
We're pleased to report that the newest Pro Evolution Soccer continues the series' tradition of playing a great game of football. From the moment you kick off, either against a friend or the computer, Pro Evolution Soccer delivers a fantastic representation of the sport. Realistic body shapes, player momentum, and ball physics combine to provide the greatest result yet. Just like in real football, you have to work at creating build-up play and set pieces, but in return you'll get a deep level of satisfaction when you score a truly remarkable goal.
The game's visuals have received some Xbox 360 attention.
Konami has made this year's game tighter than ever before. For example, players need to be facing their intended targets to attain any sort of passing accuracy, and the game usually favours the defending player in one-on-one situations. Consequently, Pro Evolution Soccer 2007 is a slower game than its predecessor and favours quick-passing play as opposed to selfish, solo runs. On the other hand, fouls are awarded much less frequently this time around, which prevents the stop-start routine that marred PES5. Although it takes a while to adjust to these changes, the new version of Pro Evolution Soccer is the best yet in terms of action, and it will reward dedicated players with a good degree of depth.
However, as a next-generation title, Pro Evolution on the Xbox 360 doesn't work quite as hard as it could. The lack of licensed team data has always been an issue for the series, but this version has even less functionality than last year's PlayStation 2 game. The German league has mysteriously disappeared, and while there are still a reasonable number of licensed teams, only four are represented from the entire British Isles. That's fine if you're a fan of Rangers, Celtic, Arsenal, or Manchester United, but everyone else will have to make do with a fictional team name that is based loosely on the real club's location. Spurs fans must put up with North East London, Reading fans with Berkshire Blues, and so on.
Even worse, Konami has now decided to omit the editing features that were available in previous Pro Evolution Soccer games. These options have been comprehensive in the past in order to make up for the lack of official licences in the game. In fact, while the full roster of team and player changes can still be made in the PlayStation 2 version of the game, in the Xbox 360 game you can only make alterations to players' names and statistics. Appearances, kits, and even fake team names can't be changed, which is something of a step backwards, although the proportion of accurate player names overall is higher this time around, and transfers are accurate to the end of the August 2006 transfer window. What's more, there's no option to save goal replays either, so the days of saving your most glorious strikes to show off to your mates are gone.
Also, the unlockable items that PES points previously allowed you to buy are gone, although national teams of classic players can be obtained by winning some of the cup competitions available. All of the usual national tournaments return in exactly the same format as before. The Asian Cup, which includes just five teams, provides a short-term challenge, and for something more comprehensive, you can play the European competition or set up your own club or national team tournaments if you so desire, playing as any team in the game.
The focus of the single-player game has always been the master league, and thankfully, it returns in this year's game. Because this is a long-term challenge in which you take a team of low-quality fictional players to the top, you'll need to win matches and accumulate in-game currency to buy decent players on the way. This year's version of the master league is exactly the same as in previous years, with one or two changes in presentation. For example, it's now possible to choose whether or not players age or improve. By switching this last option off, you can re-create the experience from past Pro Evo games and gradually build up a team of today's superstars, as opposed to a raft of regenerated youngsters with the exact same names as famous players now.
Licensed players look great, but there aren't enough of them.
Either way, there's nothing in this career mode that shows any particular ambition, and Konami has been content to simply serve up what we've seen in previous versions of the game. Therefore, if you've spent weeks working your way out of fake-player obscurity and into the world-class arena previously, you can now contemplate doing exactly the same thing over again, in exactly the same way.
As you'd expect from a game that is making its Xbox 360 debut, the biggest improvement to Pro Evolution Soccer is in the visuals. The high-definition overhaul means that you can really appreciate the player details, particularly in the way they move. The interaction between players and the ball has been key to Pro Evolution Soccer's success, and it's never looked as clear as on the Xbox 360. While it's not yet in the same league as the 2006 FIFA World Cup game in terms of detail and authenticity, there's still enough to please the eye. Player likenesses are reasonable enough so that you can tell who the players are for the most part, although the licensed players certainly seem to have had more attention paid to them. There are still entire club and national teams that feature players with incorrect names, and a few of them have hair colour or facial characteristics that will no doubt baffle some football fans.
Peter Brackley and Sir Trevor Brooking make a return in the commentary box, and while there seems to be less repetition in their remarks, there's nothing noticeably new in the stock phrases either. It's always been one of the Pro Evo series' weaknesses. Although they won't have you switching off the commentary after playing for a few days, it's nothing to write home about.
There has been a fair amount of anticipation about the online multiplayer capabilities of Pro Evolution Soccer 2007, as with many other Xbox 360 games. While playing against the computer is certainly compelling, competing against real people is far more exciting, and players can battle over an online leaderboard. Each person's Xbox Live profile will build up an online database, which keeps track of a variety of statistics, including your performance over time and even your favoured choice of team.
The online mode will sort you into several leagues, depending on your ranking. And you will move up and down based on how many times you win, lose, or draw. If you want to play practise matches or against friends, then you can play in unranked games. But the real challenge comes in playing online ranked matches that will contribute to your leaderboard position. The real disappointment is that you can't set up online tournaments with friends. So while the online multiplayer mode is incredibly fun and addictive, it's a decidedly last-generation experience.
Body shapes and player movement make the game feel realistic.
The performance of online play is fairly stable, although there are some issues that blight a game, which depend on quick reactions. Shots, crosses, free kicks, and corners are much trickier online because of a lag between the button press and the onscreen power bar. This means that you'll often hold the button down for longer than you need. And when the action is completed, you end up with way more power than you'd want. After a few games, you'll work out how to compensate, but it's still off-putting.
Achievements in the game are straightforward to win by playing through the preset tournaments and the master league competitions. It may sound as if a lot of time is required, but it's possible to unlock most achievements by setting the game to the easy mode and on the shortest match length to romp through them. Much harder to achieve are the online badges, which require you to play 100 online games and win 100 matches.
Overall, while the most important part of the game--the football--is of the usual high standard, there's a general lack of ambition in other areas of the game. But there's no doubt that for the foreseeable future this game will continue to play some of the greatest matches around, and the challenge to be one of the best players online will live on for a long time to come.

Serious Sam 2 The Second Encounter starts where the previous game left off, with Sam traveling to Sirius on the "SSS Centerpiece". Unfortunately, the starship is accidentally hit by the "Croteam crate-bus" and plummets down to Earth's surface. As the starship falls, Sam reads the coordinates and frets about crash-landing into Egypt again, but instead he crashes into Central America in the Mayan age, with the starship now heavily damaged upon impact. However, not all hope is lost, since the Sirians left a "back-up starship" on Earth, which was a fail-safe in case if anything ever happens to the "SSS Centerpiece". However, since this "back-up starship" is located in a different time and age than where and when Sam is currently in, he will have to uncover the locations of the other Sirian Time-Locks that will help him reach his destination. With this new objective, Sam storms through Mesoamerica, then travels to Mesopotamia and finally to Medieval Europe where the "back-up starship" is located. During his journey, Sam battles two of Mental's Time-Lock guardians: a powerful spirit named Kukulkan the Wind God and a biomechanical creature called the Exotech Larva. Finally, in front of the Cathedral of Sacred Blood, Sam confronts the last obstacle to overcome on his path to the Holy Grail, Mordekai the Summoner. After a glorious battle with Mordekai and his spawning minions, The Summoner is finally silenced forever. In the Cathedral, Sam lifts the Holy Grail in the palms of his hands, followed by his confessions of his sins in a booth...to Mental, during which he reassures Mental that "he's coming to get him." During the end credits, Sam activates the "back-up starship" and travels back into space toward his next adventure. The story then continues on to Serious Sam II.
Serious Sam: The First Encounter was last year's most surprising first-person shooter. www.muhammadniaz.blogspot.com Featuring a never-before-seen 3D engine that could render literally hundreds of weird, dangerous creatures simultaneously within huge environments, Serious Sam offered no shortage of pure arcade action. For good measure, the game included an extremely enjoyable cooperative multiplayer mode and a lot of good-natured humor, and the whole thing retailed for less than $20. The game was a steal, as well as a promising breakthrough for the previously unheard of Croatian developer, Croteam. Now, nearly a year after the release of the original, Croteam is back with the predictably named sequel. And while it uses the same engine, stars the same tough-as-nails wisecracking hero, and once again requires you to fight through thousands of monsters before you reach the final climactic battle, Serious Sam: The Second Encounter is not necessarily what you'd otherwise expect. It's not just more of the same--this creative, fun, extremely intense shooter is even better than the original.
Serious Sam: The Second Encounter is one of a very small percentage of games that can be wholeheartedly recommended to everyone, especially because it retails for less than $20, just like its predecessor. While there were many outstanding shooters in the last year, most of them had to be recommended with a caveat or two: "This is a much better game in multiplayer," "This game isn't as realistic as you might expect," and so on. In contrast, there are only pleasant surprises to be found in Serious Sam: The Second Encounter. Regardless of what sort of action you prefer--whether you like it lighthearted or visceral, whether you want to play solo or with others, or whether you want a quick fix or a game with real lasting value--you'll find virtually everything there is to like about action gaming in the stunning sequel to Serious Sam.
